We are exiting the “Information Age” and entering the "Innovation Age," where inventive minds will be at a premium. However, in most schools "standardized" thinking (and standardized tests) continues to dwarf the importance of creative thinking, which fuels today’s economic engines worldwide. The challenges that will face us in the near future will be solved by innovative thinkers using the knowledge and skills (the “practices”) learned in the STEM fields, not by individuals with a capacity to memorize commonly accepted information -- the goal of 19th and 20th century education. In the workplace of the future, individuals adept at problem solving, critical thinking and inventive thinking skills, will out-perform those who are only adept at memorization and test-taking. This is why researchers have concluded that
creativity is three times stronger than IQ as a predictor of lifetime success.
